TUNNEL TO TOWERS TOWER CLIMB
Each year since 2015, the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation has held a Tower Climb at One World Observatory at One World Trade Center in New York. One thousand people make their way up the steps of the building that symbolizes strength and hope, and the resiliency and invincibility of the American spirit.
The event celebrates the life and sacrifice of FDNY Captain Billy Burke. After responding to the attacks at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Captain Burke stayed behind to save others on the 27th floor of the north tower, while commanding other firefighters to get out of the building. He was already aware that the south tower had collapsed. Captain Burke lost his life moments later. His selflessness is legendary among those in his profession.
The view from the 102nd floor is nothing short of spectacular. After making the emotional climb, participants explore expansive, panoramic views in every direction from a unique perspective. One of the major highlights, of course, is viewing the two reflecting pools that mark the footprints of where the Twin Towers once stood.
The event will take place on Sunday, June 2. - Click for information
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation
The Siller Family started the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation to honor the memory of their brother, Stephen, a New York City firefighter (FDNY) who lost his life on September 11, 2001. The Foundation was built upon the mantra, “while we have time, LET US DO GOOD,” and continues Stephen’s legacy by supporting our nation’s first responders and service members.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation supports the following programs along with many others;
Gold Star Family Home Program, honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country by providing the surviving spouses and young children with a brand new, mortgage-free home.
Smart Home Program provides mortgage-free smart homes to our most catastrophically injured service members. Each home is custom designed to address the unique needs of each individual.
Fallen First Responder Home Program pays off the remaining mortgages for families left behind when a firefighter or police officer is killed in the line of duty. Upon hearing news of the tragic loss of a first responder, Tunnel to Towers deploys a rapid response team to immediately provide support to the family.
